Long seeks another term
as Independent on Langley Township Council
Bob
Long is seeking re-election to council as an Independent. "I
still have a lot to offer the community and I look forward to
serving again on council where my vote can make a difference," says
Long.
Long,
a resident of Aldergrove, was president of the Langley
Chamber of Commerce in 1997-98. He owns and operates several
businesses
in Langley and was recognized as Business Person of the Year
by the Chamber of Commerce in 2003. Long has served as a volunteer
with many community groups and organizations.
During
his terms on council, Long has been a member of several
council committees including: Staff/council relationships,
Public Transportation Advisory Taskforce, Community Heritage
Commission,
Economic Development Commission, (City/Township joint) Parks
and Rec Committee, Treaty Negotiations and Labour Relations.
He currently
serves as past President of the Lower Mainland Local Government
Association and represents British Columbia on the Federation
of Canadian Municipalities National Board.
According
to Long, one of the main concerns facing Langley is still
transportation. "Connecting our communities is a real
challenge, so we must be diligent to continue to fight for improved
public
transit and make our urban centres 'pedestrian friendly', he
says.
"Langley
is known as a community of communities with great diversity.
Long says. This uniqueness that makes Langley such
an interesting place to live also provides challenges
for
municipal government. Added Long. The best tools
a politician can use are his ears. Listening to the community
can ensure that the
right decision is made for
the citizens that pay the taxes." |
