Councillor

As our community grows, the Township has recognized the need to phase in fulltime firefighters and as you can see from the motion below, we have agreed with staff to get going on this. So over the past few weeks, our Fire Chief has held a series of open houses to gauge public support.

His report should be submitted to council shortly and council will be in a position to vote to include fulltime firefighters in the 2006-2007 budget.

This is an excerpt from the June 27, 2995 Council meeting:

Moved by Councillor Long,
Seconded by Councillor Kirkpatrick,

That the Township of Langley's (the Township) long-term financial planning process include provision for hiring full-time firefighters; and

That the Township begin planning to hire full-time firefighters, which planning shall include consultation with paid-call members and the public; and

That the Fire Department analyze alternate service delivery models in regards to medical calls; accident calls and the effect of mandatory fire sprinklers;

and further

That, as part of the planning process, the Township continue to emphasize prevention and education as a priority for the Fire Department.
